Why post-frame costs less
It isn't a cheaper building. It's a different way of carrying the load, and the savings come from what you don't have to do.
- No continuous foundation wall. Large wood columns carry the roof and wall loads directly, so there's no perimeter footing and stem wall to form and pour.
- Concrete is optional. Pour a full slab, do partial concrete where you need it, or run compacted gravel. Your call, and it's the biggest lever on the budget.
- Fewer framing members, longer spans. Columns spaced further apart mean less material and less labor for the same footprint.
- Faster to dry-in. Fewer steps between breaking ground and a weathertight building.
- Easy to insulate and finish. The deep wall cavity between columns takes insulation without furring anything out.
Pole building or steel building?
This is the question we get most, and the honest answer depends on span and use — not on which one is "better."
Post-frame usually wins for shops, storage, agricultural buildings and garages at moderate spans. It's less expensive to build, quicker to put up, and simpler to insulate. If the building's job is to cover equipment, house a shop, or store product, post-frame is normally the efficient choice.
Pre-engineered steel usually wins when you need wide clear spans with no interior columns, heavier roof or crane loads, or a finished commercial appearance for a customer-facing building. If you're weighing that side, our steel and metal buildings page covers it in detail.

How we build it
- Site walk and scope. We look at access, drainage, setbacks and what you actually need the building to do before anyone quotes a number.
- Permitting and engineering. Post-frame still has to meet Washington code for wind and snow loads. We handle the drawings and the permit.
- Site prep and columns. Grading, then columns set to depth and braced plumb — the step everything else depends on.
- Frame and dry-in. Trusses, purlins, roofing and siding. This is the part that goes up fast.
- Concrete, doors and finish. Slab if you're pouring one, overhead and entry doors, insulation, interior finish, wiring rough-in coordination.
- Walk-through and close-out. One crew, one point of contact, straight answers the whole way through.
Sizes and scope we take on
We're a commercial general contractor, but pole buildings are a category where we deliberately take smaller work. A well-built shop is worth doing whether it's 1,200 square feet or 12,000.
What we'd rather tell you up front: if your project is a small residential-scale carport or a kit you're planning to put up yourself, we're probably not the right fit and we'll say so on the phone rather than after a site visit. Where we're a strong fit is anything you want engineered, permitted, and built by one accountable contractor from grading through final walk-through.
